a baby story

i'm playing catch up again.  this is a long, long, baby story!  well 9 months came and went and it was time to go to the hospital......  after calling bren's mom to come stay w/ the kids, i got all ready for the hospital on june 22nd, 2011.  we got there around 10pm or so and i wasn't dialated more than a 2 and contractions for them weren't strong enough so they sent us home at 3am.  thanks a lot.  i was supposed to come in that morning at 7 for a scheduled induction, so i just didn't get why i couldn't stay for a few hours till my induction.  very frustrating when you are READY for a freakin baby to come out!!  we ended up calling the hospital at 630am to make sure we could come back in at 7 and they told us they had a swarm of mom's come in, so i would have to wait.  maybe 7pm that night i could come back in.  super frustrating.  bren took the day off and we went w/ annette and the kids to get lunch and got a new stroller and car seat for baby.  then we called around 630pm and they said they were still too busy for me to come in, so i still needed to wait.  as i type this out it sounds like so not a big deal, but at the time it was a huge deal.  i was SO uncomfortable hadn't slept in 2 nights and just wanted to have the little guy here!!  then the hospital called us at 11pm and said come on in!!  so yeah we got in the car and drove the mile and half to get there.  nice to have a hospital so close.  when i got there they said they were gonna give me an iv and they wouldn't start the induction (gels) until 9am.  wow this is gonna be a long night.  i actually got a sleeping pill and slept the best 6 hours ever!!  i have been induced 2 of the 3 times i've had babies, but this time they did gels instead of pitocin, so it was a different experience.  they did the gel and then told me and bren to go walk around the hospital for an hour.  ok.  so we did they hooked me to the monitor and not too much was happening, so a couple hours later they did the gels again and told me to walk around for another hour.  mind you it's 115 outside and the hospital isn't that big.  and now contractions are coming more and more rapid and the pain is setting in.  the kids came to have lunch w/ me in the cafeteria, but i couldn't stay long i was in pain.  so bren and i went back to my room to check my statis.  only a 4, but i was dying!  i had my epidural and felt better for a minute, but then i had some weird reaction and my WHOLE body was itching to death.  kindy freaky, so they had the anesthes come back and lower the drip and awe so much better!  at about 3pm i was feeling pretty good and thinking it was still gonna be awhile.  then a bit later the baby's heart rate started to drop and this is where it got super scary.  they made me get on all fours (mind you i'm pretty numb everywhere), and i thought i was gonna have to deliver like that!  not the way i envisioned it.  then i had to quickly turn over and push i was only at an 8 a few minutes before, so i was getting freaked out.  the dr. came in and said if you don't push this baby out fast we will have to vacuum him out.  ok no pressure!!  so a couple pushes and out came this beautiful tiny biscuit at 3:42pm!!  i could tell instantly he was a little bit.  only 6lbs 9oz and 19 inches.  hooray he's here and safe!  turns out there was a knot in the cord and it was cutting off his nutrition.  thankfully i had him when i did.  cash andrew bates is here and we are all so happy and in love w/ him!

june 22nd, the night i got sent back home
june 23rd, the night they had me come back in, looking a bit more tired
our little peanut: cash andrew bates
since cash had to come so fast his face was SUPER blue, so we called him our little smurf :)
scary knot in the cord, the dr. said she's only seen that a couple times

the nurses made a sign for him, so people wouldn't freak out when they saw his blue face
