things that bring fond mems are:
-going to the base ball field dances at the beg of the year
-playing scum till the wee hours of the morn
-playing rambo
-going to the sand dunes
-roommate prayer
-talking to my roomies till whenever
-the 3rd floor of the library to "study"
-getting robbed our soph year over conf weekend and having the police say that they really got mine and marianne's room because it was such a wreck and jess saying "oh, no that's how their room always looks"! sad. but they really did make off w/ some goods. our rental tv, tons of cd's, mae's guitar, some clothes, cash, etc. i think that made us all closer after that too.
-4 of us met our future hubby's at ricks
-going to devotionals
-ditchin the r.a. all the time (we were lucky to not get into much trouble)!
-going to basketball games our soph year (they had an awesome year and tons of our friends were on the team).
-we loved to dance (especially me and steph in the front window rc #110 baby!)
-songs that remind me of ricks, all my life by casey and jo jo, killing me softly by the fugees, some celine songs, sarah mcglaughlin songs, so many i can't remember.
-bummin rides of scott to take us to the store
-all our good guy friends we made a ton!
-good thing we had the 6 of us (i don't remember makin too many girl friends)!
-craigos (the best bread sticks ever)
-midnight trips to mav (my flava of choice back then was mt. dew ahhhhh YUM)
-going grocery shopping at "alby's" and eating the fresh warm bread right then and there!
-special trips to i.f. (idaho falls)
-random trips some of us went on to cabins, or friends houses, or whatever.
-the dance club retrix (i did some random stuff there too. i was hypnotized at a show and people thru the year would say "hey, aren't you the girl that cried when the cop pulled you over when you were hypnotized"? um yeah. i also, jello wrestled w/ a friend for some pest control kick off or something! haha. i wish i could find those pics!
-walking home from the library late at night and almost slipping every time on the way down the hill!
-my social dance class
-going thru 2 years of college and never going to school on a friday! woop woop. yeah i was really there for the education!
-winning our ward talent show our soph year and then performing for the stake talent show.
-abbrevs (we would talk in abbrev's all the time)! hahaha.
-my 19th bday was my fav bday ever! we had a band play in our tiny kitchen and had tons of people having a blast!
-as you can see i have a lot of mems those are to name a few!
some times i wish i could of gone to school there longer. i HEART rexburg still. it will always have such a special piece of my heart. i love my girls i wish we could see each other more often, but thru blogging we get to stay connected a little better. i really grew as a person there. i gained my testimony of this gospel and made some friends that i love sooooo much. i met my best friend brennan at the end of the year, but if it wasn't for rick's we prob wouldn't of ever met. sometimes going back to those times i get sad because i miss the fun and good mems, but i am so thankful that i got to go there and find love for such a small town. although, it ain't so small anymore! they have a temple (which i can't wait to go to), there's a paul mitchell hair school, a taco bell, tons of housing, so much (compared to when i was there). any time i get to talk about going there i roll w/ it, i LOVE talking about the good times and all that. my cute cousin meredith is going there in the fall not knowing anyone i'm so excited for her and hope she has an awesome time! i hope our kids will want to go there one day too! i would love that. i can't find any pics of our fresh year, but here are some of our soph year! enjoy!
first sunday of our soph year

from left to right: steph, crow, marianne, nano, jess, & me

all of us w/ our dads! i was lucky to have my dad come to "mother's week" my fresh year! he was just one of the girls! taking us to hogi yogi for ice cream and playing scum till dawn! it was such a fun time! thanks for coming dad, it meant a lot to me :)!

grad day! i was nervous it almost wouldn't happen (that darn math), but it did phew!
jess, nano, marianne, steph, me, crow! i was so lucky henry b. iring was at my personal grad (criminal justice) and i got to shake his hand! it was awesome.

after we packed up our apt, we all went to garcia's in i.f. (except marianne) and we are hugging and singing the song rose from what we sang at the talent show! cheesy, but hey we love each other! and we were sad to leave!

this is a couple of days before grad! bren and i met in feb, but didn't really hang till right before i graduated! we had our first kiss 10 years ago at "beaver dick park" lovely name! to the song by casey and jo jo, all my life! ohhh love you babe!

The Rose -- Westlife
Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger
An endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
And you, it’s only seed
It’s the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken
Who can not seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying
That never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the
Lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow lies the seed
That with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose

Rae, when did you become the spokeswoman for Ricks College! Holy Cow! Your post made me smile and laugh...Some of those pics! It threw me right back to 110 and I almost forgot about the fussy, sick baby on my lap. Hello? Reunion?
I never went to Rick's but if I were to do it all over again I would go there in a heartbeat. I have a niece there right now and I always try to encourage my Young Women to go there. Great place to have a great time and be around good people:)
:)
That's a really cute post Rachael. I forget how short your hair was back then! It's cute! SO much fun to think back on all the memories and the fun crazy things you did. I've been totally nastolgic like this recently too....maybe when you're home with kids all days you have those moments when your old life sounds a little more lively. But I know we're both happy to be where we are now too.
Cute stuff! I'm glad you had such a great experience there and yea, I hope Mere loves it too!
btw, funny you would post that today, b/c I'm going to post some old pictures too. I'm starting a "Flashback Friday"...maybe you should do it too! Fun way to write down some old mems.
Have a good weekend!
Such fun times for you! I know you have fond memories. I wish I could share in the Rexburg love, but you know my story. : ) Cute pics of you guys!
I'm excited for Mere too, and I hope she has such a great experience like you did!
Rae I love love love this post!!! I would love to go back and live a few days of that time again every once in a while. I guess reunions are the way to go. I was smiling and laughing that whole post and then telling Bryan the stories of what happend. So fun! Love you!
college is so fun, it is crazy how different life is now...
Your hair looks super cute short too.
Rachael~ Hey I went to Rick's & was good friends with Brennan & CJ. I saw your post through a friends & thought I would say hello. Your family is beautiful! What a blast from the past...Cathy Anderson (Curtis)
Great tribute to Ricks. I think I have some of the pics you couldn't find(jello wrestling) I can't believe it has been 10 years. You forgot Abba. Abba's music reminds me of ricks. Talk to you soon!

I'm so glad you had a great time at Ricks. I remember coming down and meeting your rooomates and having a movie night. You made me feel like a part of the group. I had similar experiences at BYU in Provo. Too much fun and great times. The biggest bonus was for you to meet Brennan and become best friends! I love you so much! mom
What the heck Rae...all those pics of me are so gross!! But I still love to look at them! Fun times!! I also loved writing all over our kitchen with crayons. Being locked in our house because our "friends" buried the front door with snow! And being scared by the Beast!!
Doesn't it make you feel so old when you think about how long ago college was...oh wait I'm still in college:) On the 50 year plan YO!!!
I swear you are always so dang cute in all your pics. I see pics of me back in the days and wonder, "What the freak was I thinking?"
:)
your Ricks years sound just like mine...even down to the first summer school experiance where I had to prove myself with that long summer program in order to get accepted in the fall.
I loved all the same thing you did and add Pizza Bombs from Craigos, being an R team leader, and crazy group dates!
What a fun experience you had. I love your hair short. Do you ever get tempted to cut it again? You also look EXACTLY the same. You haven't aged in 10 years. OH, and the KC & JoJo song was the song Justin and I danced to at our wedding! Good song!
Rachael, after reading this post and the one about your last trip to Cali I have come to a decision about you. You don't just have fun everywhere you go. You ARE the fun everywhere you go. You like bring the fun with you. It is one the the things I like best about you. You are almost always smiling and making the rest of us feel better by being near you. Great gift. Thanks.
I LOVED Ricks too. It was so great. Jenny and I were talking yesterday about your amazing chocolate chip cookies. If only you were still at the Mora Kai...
Hey Rachel... Julie B. put a comment on my blog yesterday and I went to hers and found yours. Last time I saw you was at the Irvine Spectrum in Old Navy. You were pregnant with your daughter. Funny how I pulled up your blog and the most recent post is about Ricks!!! I could cry when I think of all my memories and experiences there. They really were the BEST!!! Rexburg will always be dear to my heart (Never thought I would say that before I went there)! Thanks for letting me think back to the good old times at Retrix, Craigos, Maverick, walking in the BUTT COLD snow and falling all over the place. That place is the greatest place on earth!!! Your family is darling and it looks like you are doing well. Take care!!! :)
Never went to Ricks, but I sounds like a great place! I love all the old pics...you don't look much different 10 years later! Would you like to share your secret?
So, I think we are coming out to AZ this Sunday for a week. Maybe we can meet up...I'll call ya!
Hey Brennan! Its Hayley Gordon, Brandon Gordon's wife...remember us? B misses you and thinks about you often. You should check out our blog at www.brandonandhayleygordon.blogspot.com B's email is brandon.gordon@mu.edu send a shout out to us sometime. It looks like you are happy. What cute kids you have! miss you!~
I just got around to reading all of these comments, and I have to ask -- you said you lived in Harmony, and someone mentioned 110. If the two are connected, I'm so creeped out right now, because that's totally where I lived my first semester at Ricks. Wouldn't that be wild if we lived in the same apartment?
Hieeeeeeeeeeee~
Holy crap! I just connected with Nanogram on Facebook and she told me about your little blog. Turns out a much younger version of Mike Fronce is in one of those pictures. Wow. Rachael! So good to see you! You are a mom and that is rad! Those were some great pics on your blog. So glad that you are doing well!
WOW! Those pics take me back...really really far back. When are you going to join the party on Facebook so we can all be in contact again?
-Ryan Wilcox
PS Hieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
PPS Can Mike and I come to the 110 reunion too?
